NEW BENEFITS
RHS
We are continuing with our membership of the Royal Horticultural Society in 2014. This has benefits for OBAGS and its members which are detailed here.

TOILET
As you may know we were given a Council grant to install a toilet adjacent to the Trading Huts for the use of OBAGS members. This work has been completed, except that to minimise the ingress of mud, some paving slabs will be laid in front of the entrance. Since the facility is susceptible to frost damage, it will be drained down and closed each year during the worst of the winter weather. Indeed, the groundsman often shuts off the water supply to the entire allotment site when conditions are bad. Consequently, the inaugural opening of the toilet will be delayed until the danger of damaging frost has passed.

BBC2’s Big Allotment Challenge

BBC2 are looking for amateur kitchen gardeners to take part in a competition to turn a plot of land into a ‘plot of beauty’. See ‘The Big Allotment Challenge’. Apply grow@silverriver.tv or 0207 907 3401. Closing Date: 13 March, 2014.
Bee-keeping at Riley Lane

It was agreed at the last Parish Council Meeting that a separate area at the rear of the allotments should be set aside for bee-keeping. Initially the total number of hives on the plot will be restricted to 15 with a maximum number of 3 hives per bee-keeper. A charge of £5.00 per hive has been set to cover the cost of maintaining the area and bee-keepers will be required to sign an agreement to adhere to the Terms & Conditions laid down by the Parish Council.
It was also agreed that allotment holders should be offered the first opportunity to use this area for bee-keeping, after which, if space is still available, it will be open to any parishioners who have the relevant qualifications to keep bees. How to Apply.
King’s Seed Catalogues 2015

The 2015 edition of the Kings Seed Catalogue is now available for collection. Could you please collect your copy from the Trading Hut on Sunday the 17th August 2014, between 10.30 am and noon.
This earlier date for the distribution of the Seed Catalogue will enable members to have a longer browse before submitting their order. Dates for order submission are attached to your copy.
Social Sunday: Picnic

On Sunday 13th July at 1:00 pm, OBAGS are holding a ‘Social Sunday’ Picnic at the Allotment site off Riley Lane. This is just a get together for OBAGS members and friends for a lazy afternoon in the sun (we hope).
There will be tables set up in front of the sheds for this event.
Please bring your own chairs, food, drink and plates etc. There will be a central table set up if you wish to share your food or bring a spare dish for all to try.

We hope to see you there!
